Anatálio & Sábia

Anatálio and Sábia are brothers raised on a small farm in rural Goiás. Anatálio, the elder, carries the lead voice and plays the ten-string viola caipira. Sábia is Joaquim, the younger brother, who earned his nickname as a boy because he sang and whistled like the sabiá songbird. On acoustic guitar and harmony, his higher voice completes the duo's sound.

The brothers learned to listen and tell stories from their grandfather, vô Tião, a viola player who performed at weddings, Folia de Reis celebrations and community gatherings. He left no records behind. What remained was his viola, a repertoire held in memory and a patient way of turning everyday life into song. After he died, the brothers promised to keep the old modas alive and write new ones in the same spirit.

That family story still shapes every Anatálio & Sábia song. Red earth, drought, cattle, faith, lost love and people leaving the countryside for the city appear as memories told from within that world. Across slow modas, toadas, catiras and pagodes de viola, the brothers sing close together and without hurry, like a conversation on the porch at the end of the day.
