Zeca Pixel
Goiânia cut up, sped up and turned into a hook.
About the artist
Zeca Pixel turns everyday sounds from Goiás into sample pop: Brazilian funk drums, arrocha swing, digital fragments and a bright voice that sounds as though it escaped from a phone message.
Listen to Zeca Pixel.
Zeca Pixel makes pop with one ear on the street and one hand on the sampler. Market calls, notifications, conversations, city noise and fragments of everyday culture in Goiás are cut apart and returned as rhythm, texture or an inside joke.
He calls the result cerrado sample pop. Brazilian funk, arrocha, mandelão bass and flashes of sertanejo form the foundation, while digital edits bend syllables and ordinary moments into hooks. The music is fast, colourful and made for another play, but it always belongs to a specific place: Goiânia.
Zeca's voice is central to the sound. Thin, nasal, close and slightly cracked, it feels like a voice note taken into the studio. Moving between humour, flirtation and a trace of melancholy, Zeca Pixel finds music where most people would hear only noise.
